A View from the Field
STORY
The Permanent Okavango River Basin Water Commission (OKACOM), is a river basin organization established by the three riparian states of Angola, Botswana and Namibia to jointly manage water resources of the Cubango-Okavango River Basin. Tracy Molefi is program coordinator at OKACOM. She and her colleagues are determined to promote sustainable development and management of the Cubango-Okavango River Basin while also improving livelihoods of communities. Read her story.

CIWA Male Champions: Insights
In 2023, the Cooperation in International Waters in Africa (CIWA) initiated the Male Champions for Women’s Empowerment (MCWE) program, aimed at engaging a group of committed men who pledge to actively support the participation of women in the context of transboundary water management. After a couple of years of existence, observe as they share their insights and experiences.

Conference and Workshop
Our team had the privilege of participating in Panafcon 3, a conference focusing on water and sanitation issues in Africa, and engaging stakeholders in relation to the new pan-African PASA “Unlocking the Potential of Africa’s Transboundary Water Resources for Prosperity”. CIWA Team presented its innovative Biodiversity Framework at a UNECE global workshop in Geneva on freshwater ecosystem conservation and restoration in transboundary basins.
